Charming, Cleverly Written, Self-Deprecating. Comedy At Its Best.
Since débuting his first solo show in 2007, Thorno has not only continue to rise rapidly in the comedy scene, becoming the international comedy superstar that he is now; but he has also expanded his career in television and radio, with a wide range of performance credits such as appearing in Upper Middle Bogan, co-hosting This Week Live and currently being one half of Fifi & Dave on morning breakfast radio with FOX FM amongst many others.
As one of Australia’s most likeable comedians, Dave Thornton is back at the 2016 International Melbourne Comedy Festival with his brand new show titled So On & So Forth.
From his first ever and disastrously hilarious skiing experience (not as a child, but as an adult), awkward moments with his plumber, his appreciation to love for tradies and survival after Armageddon/apocalypse; to a strangely and weirdly accurate impersonation of a credit card, the best heckle he’s ever encountered, the various types of engagements in his life and his eventful experience at a 10 day meditation retreat; we get invited to a snippet of Thorno’s life as he as he cruises through his mid-30s. Thorno is not only a master of impeccable comedic timing and punchline delivery but he is also superbly talented at crowd work and connecting/segueing the conversations he has with audiences seamlessly into his own brilliantly written collection of cleverly witty self-deprecating anecdotes on his life so far.
If there’s one thing to get out of this show, it would be the following: you don’t ever rest your beers on the edge of his stage if you’re sitting in the front row…why you ask? Well, let me paraphrase the explanation he gave that night as he took the beer that was resting on his stage from the audience member; you see, as a comedian, the stage is part of his territory (his turf if you will) and therefore anything within the radius is his. In other words, if you rest your beer on the edge of the stage you can guarantee that it belongs to Thorno now and he’ll shamelessly brazenly and relentlessly drink it all. Oh, and if you’re a youngster in his show and he can see you, you might get a Thorno stamp approved licence to swear into his mic. If you get chosen, use this one off licence wisely.
Dave Thornton’s So On and So Forth is guaranteed to leave you laughing till you’re gasping for air. The perfect choice for a perfect night out with friends to celebrate all occasions…but especially a birthday…
